Abstract
Learning Objects (LO) is one of the emerging innovations in the field of instructional technology. However, as it is the case for all other new technologies, its technological attributes shadows it pedagogical promises. Studies conducted on LO have indicated that the main emphasis in the literature has been put on its philosophy, its categorization and technical and visual specifications. In this study, the role and importance of LO in educational settings and its integration has been discussed in line with the related literature. In parallel, design, development and evaluation principles of LO has been discussed under the light of fundamental learning approaches. Additionally, the use of LO in different instructional settings has been demonstrated with related examples.
