Abstract
The purpose of this study is to compare the level of job satisfaction between the private primary school teachers state primary school teachers. The study group consists of 151 teachers from six state and six private primary schools in the district of Trabzon Directorate of National Education. The data of this study are collected by using a modified form of “Job Satisfaction Scale of Educational Managers.” The validity and reliability tests of the modified form of the scale were completed prior to its application. The results of the study indicate a statistically significant difference in total scores of the level of job satisfaction, job quality, salary, working conditions, promotional opportunities, and colleagues, organizational life experience subscale scores. However, no difference was found amongst gender, degree in job, and educational background. In terms of the total and subscale scores of the level of job satisfaction, private primary school teachers are found to be higher. These findings support the view that the job satisfaction of the primary school teachers working at state schools needs to be improved.
