Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the high school Turkish Language and Literature program, based on teachers' opinions. The subjects of the study consisted of 110 literature teachers working at the city centres of Diyarbakır, Gaziantep and Siirt provinces. Percentages (%) were used to analyse the data. Some of the important findings of the study are summarised below: More than half the teachers thought that the interest level of the students towards the Turkish Language and Literature course is moderate. According to most of the teachers, the contents of the courses are not adequate the meet the needs and interests of the students. Most of the teachers suggest that more importance should be given to contemporary literature.
