An Investigation of University Students' Intelligences Categories According to Their Fields of Study

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the intelligences categories of the university students from different departments in terms of the Multiple Intelligences Theory. The population of the study consists of the students from different faculties and departments of Dicle University: Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Education and the School of Sports and Physical Training. The representative sample consists of 615 students. The reliability of the Multiple Intelligence Inventory, which was translated from English into Turkish, has been computed by the method of dividing the test into two groups and the correlation between the two forms of the test was calculated as 0.79. The results of the study suggest that there is a significant difference at the 0.05level among the scores of the students from different fields of study in terms of their interpersonal, logical/mathematical, linguistic, spatial and natural intelligences.
