Without Thesis Master Programme and Expectations From Future in Teacher Training

Abstract

A reform has recently been introduced in teacher training in order to train more qualified teachers and provide a more effective solution to problems encountered since the 1998-1999 educational year. This reform sees the introduction of a master’s degree without thesis as a one and a half year continuation of the undergraduate degree. This study determines the opinions and expectations of students attending this master’s programme. The study uses an interview method. The study includes 162 students in the social sciences institutes at Fırat and İnönü universities. The study covers the whole population. Data was gathered through five open ended questions validated through expert opinion The data was analyzed through descriptive analysis for qualitative research. that the study suggests that the goal of this master's programme is perceived as training for more qualified teachers by the students; the students attend the programme as it is a pre-condition for being a teacher, and that it will help them make the teaching profession more qualified through their new knowledge and skills.
