Abstract
In this study, different ways of using large-scale achievement tests and approaches for benefiting from these tests in our educational system are discussed. First, applications of large-scale achievement tests in other countries, especially in USA, were investigated and related examples were presented. Then, studies of the use of large-scale testing that have been conducted in Turkey were reviewed. Finally, possible contributions that large-scale achievement tests can make to Turkey’s educational system are discussed. Suggestions are made in terms of various aspects of education; students, teachers, educational curriculums, teaching strategies and materials, school managers, and parents.
