Abstract
This study aims to determine the opinions of Art teachers on the problems encountered in art departments and their solutions. It is also an aim to determine if there were any differences in personal features. Furthennore, we stress the importance and necessity of Art teaching within the framework of general education. The study was conducted in 21 Art teaching departments in Turkey in the 2001-2002 academic year and 323 teachers were included in the study. The data accepted as valid and useful were obtained from 79.9 % of the sample. In analyzing the data frequency, percentages and chi-square (X2) tests were used. In data analysis, the .05 significant level was used and tests were conducted using the SPSS 10 for windows statistics package .
