Perceptions of Teachers in Relation to the Supervisory Behaviours of Primary Education Supervisors

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the perceptions of teachers in relation to supervisory behaviours of primary education supervisors. The subjects of this study were primary school teachers teaching at 18 primary schools located in the city center of Bolu during the 2001-2002 academic year. The subjects of this study (n= 100) were primary school teachers from 10 primary selected randomly schools. During the preparation and development of the questionnaire, the criticisms and recommendations of subject specialists were taken into account. The questionnaire was given to all subjects but only 86 of them were returned. During the study, 86 questionnaires were analyzed. In order to analyze the data, SPSS for Windows program was used and Cronbach Alpha value for the questionnaire was found .96. During the analysis of the data collected, the percentages, frequencies, means of each item in the questionnaire were calculated and t- test and one-way ANOVA were used. The results showed a significant difference regarding branch, years of experience in teaching and gender. It was also found that the primary education supervisors sometimes indicate the supervisory behaviours that they should.
