The Effect of Cooperative Learning Method on Rural Area Student’s Science Achievement and Their Attitudes Towards Science Course

Abstract

This research was conducted on 66 students attending two different primary schools in a rural area in the  2002-2003 academic year. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of two different  teaching methods (traditional method and group learning method). For this reason, when designing  anexperimental group and a control group; the experimental group was taught using the cooperative learning method and the control group was taught using the traditional learning method. These groups were  given a Science Achievement Test and an Attitude Scale towards Science as pre-tests, and after the research  had been implemented the same tests were reapplied as post-tests.
