The Reasons of Absenteeism in Primary Schools

Abstract

This research aims to examine the student absenteesm in primary schools and to determine to take needed steps by the authorities for the students to attend the school full time. The study was conducted with a branch of 3rd grade primary school students. The Discussion Scale of the Reasons of Discontinuity is used which has been developed by the researcher. The experts are referred for their opinions in order to validate the scope of the scale and a preliminary practice is applied to determine the level of its reliability. As a result of the preliminary practice the level of reliability is fixed to be 90.8 %. As the finding reveal, families who cannot support students for their educational needs and harnessing the labour of the children for financial purposes lead to their absenteeism at school. In accordance with the results taken from the research, suggestions have been made on imposing the families about the importance of education, supporting them financially and taking care about the health of the students.
