Development of e-Learning Styles Scale for Electronic Environments

Abstract

In order to help students to learn better, instructors should provide an easy way for them to make discoveries about themselves. Thus, the aim of this study is to reveal students’ learning styles by developing an e- learning style scale. Literature review has been conducted and open-ended questions were asked to students before the development process of the scale. The first version of the scale was composed of 56 items which were grouped under eight headings. The scale was administered to 2722 students who were registered to distance educations programs. After the analysis for reliability and validity, the final version of the scale emerged as seven factors having 38 items as: independent learning, social learning, audio-visual learning, active learning, verbal learning, logical learning and intuitive learning. The e-Learning Style Scale, which was developed and analyzed for reliability and validity throughout this study, is expected to facilitate future studies that will be handled by individuals and institutions conducting research about e-Learning.
