Profiles of University Faculty Members Working at the Curriculum and Instruction Department at Universities in Turkey

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the profiles’ of the faculty at the Departments of Curriculum and Instruction in Turkish universities in terms of some different variables such as their demographic characteristics, the universities where they are employed, the locations where they come from (historical background), their scientific productivity, ability for scientific research and their information and technology competencies. Reinstitution of curriculum and instruction graduate programs and determining the views about recognition of the field of curriculum and instruction in various quarters can be listed as other issues discussed in this research. The data were gatheredd from a total of 105 academicians who are the faculty members of 28 different universities by means of data collection questionnaire which developed by the researcher. The analysis of research data consists of the frequency and percentage analysis, chi-square test, correlation analysis, Mann-Whitney U test and lastly Kendall’s Tau-B test. The findings of the research suggest that the academicians differ from each other in terms of historical background, academic and scientific productivity and the opinions about the field of curriculum and instruction.
