Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the phonological awarenesss kills and reading skills of the first-grade students at a primary school. The participants of thestudy are 126 first-grade students attending to two primary schools in Ankara. In the study, thephonological awareness and reading skills of the students were measured at the beginning of thefall semester. Students’ reading and reading comprehension skills were measured three times:in the middle and at the end of the fall semester and in the middle of the spring semester. It wasinvestigated whether or not the scores of primary school first-grade students on the phonologicalawareness scale predict their scores on the reading and reading comprehension scale.
