Development of Violence Tendency Scale

Abstract

The aim of the study was to develop a violence tendency scale for high school students. In accordance with this purpose, The Violence Tendency Scale (VTS) that was developed to fit into the Turkish cultural context was used. The reliability and validity work were carried out over a sample of 218 high school student (male= 122, female= 96). The data were analized through SPSS. The structual validity of VTS was examined by exploratory factor analysis. In the VTS, there are 20 items 1 of which are reversed. VTS includes four factors: firstly “the feeling of violence”, secondly “violence through information technologies” thirdly, “the feeling of harming others”, and lastly “applying violence against others. The reliability work of the VTS was done in two different ways: First, the Cronbach Alpha coefficient of the Scale was (Alpha= .87) and second, the reliability of test- retest was (rXX=.83). How the employ the Violence Tendency Scale is explicated an suggestion are made.
