The Effect of Prepared Activities by Using the Newspapers in Science Course on Students’ Academic Achievement

Abstract

Similarities between the issues in newspapers and daily life would help students to have more effective learning by improving their interests to these issues. Purposes of science and technology course which relate to daily life and newspapers which contain data for this course, indicates the suitability of using newspapers in this course. In accordance, the purpose of this study is to determine the effect of using the activities based on newspapers in 5th grade science and technology course. Pre-test and post-test experiment-control group quasi-experimental design was used in this study. Data of this study was gathered with the academic achievement test which developed by researchers. Results of the study indicates that there is a significant effect of science and technology courses which are supported with activities based on newspapers, on students academic achievement
