Concurrent Validity of Proficiency Examination for Elementary School Sixth Grade Students

Abstract

The concurrent validity concerning the scores attained in the 6th grade courses and the 6th grade SBS examination were put in to analysis in this research. Four schools located in various districts of Ankara were included in the sample because they gave permission to use the data obtained. The canonical correlations between those students’ SBS sub-test standardized scores and course achievement scores were calculated. In consequence, the concurrent validity for the examination was found to be inadequate. Only one canonical correlation was found to be significant between achievement scores which were the independent variable and SBS sub-test scores which were the dependent variable. This case provides evidence for the fact that scores concerning some of the courses were not sufficiently consistent with SBS sub-test scores and that the examination should be revised.
