Abstract

The aim of this research is to define how teachers perceive the concept of change as it is currently experienced in education. Population of this descriptive research is made up of 412 initial stage primary school teachers working in Elazığ, Malatya, Diyarbakır and Bingöl. The data, collected through a questionnaire, were analysed through arithmetic mean and standart deviation techniques. According to the findings, it was seen that primary school teachers find the changes in education positive and agree that they should be reflected in the Turkish Education System. Moreover, the teachers highly embrace teachers’roles and new positions of the students in learning-teaching processes which were shaped by the change taking part in education. Apart from these, teachers feel that they remain incompetent in face of the changes and like to be trained to meet the needs put forward by them.
