Şener Büyüköztürk, Nilgün Köklü

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the research competencies of masters and doctorate students based on the opinions of advisors. The research included 48 teaching staff in educational sciences. The data gathered by the questionnaire was analyzed using frequency, percentage, and mean. The research findings revealed that masters students didn’t have enough competence in the area of research whereas doctorate students generally did. Another result was the fact that students and advisors faced some research and statistics related problems in thesis studies and that in order to find a solution to this problem the first thing to be done is to include these kind of lessons in the curriculum as required courses.
