Abstract

This study examines the effectivennes of a social support program on the parents of elementary-middle school students who got low social support from their families. 26 students who got low social support from their families were chosen for the experiment group and 28 students for the control group. A Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS)-Student Form developed by the researcher was administered in order to determine the social support levels of students in this study. Initially, there was no significant difference between the social support levels of the experiment group and of the control group. A social support program was then taught to the parents of the experiment group. Four months later a post-test was administered to the experiment and control groups. The data were analyzed by t-test. The findings pointed out that the social support level of the experiment group had increased significantly. The findings were discussed under the light of the literature, and some suggestions were made.
