The Views of Teachers Related to Objectives and Content Dimensions of The Science Curriculums

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out the views of teachers’ on two Primary Science Curriculums implemented in the 1992-1993 and 2001-2002 academic years. The research also shows the problems teachers faced while implementing the new science curriculum. The research was carried out with 203 teachers from 45 primary schools selected randomly from central Izmir. A questionnaire developed by the researcher was used to determine the views of teachers. The results of this research are summarized as follows: both teacher groups approach the 2001 curriculum more positively. The most important problems faced during the implementation in the curriculum in 2001 were lack of suitable books, insufficient knowledge about new curriculum and insufficiency of resource books.
