Developing a Scale for Attitudes Towards a Social Sciences Course

Neşe Özkal

Abstract

A scale for attitudes towards a Social Studies course was developed for 4th and 5th year primary school students. In order to develop this scale, a trial form was developed through students’ compositions (n=41) and a literature survey, and presented to experts ((n=11) for evaluation. After modifications based on their comments, a new trial form was administered to the 4th and 5th year students (n=214). From the data obtained, Factorial Analysis, Item-Scale Correlation, Cronbach Alpha and Split Half Coefficients were calculated. Cronbach Alpha of the Attitudes Scale for Social Studies course is 0.91 and the Split Half Coefficient Spearman Brown is 0.89.
