Positive Teacher - Student Relationships in High Schools

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the level of the positive relationships between teachers teaching in the high schools and students attending the third grade in the high schools. This study is in the form of a descriptive research. The sample of this study includes the answers given by 112 teachers working at different high schools and 356 third grade students attending different high schools in Edime city centre and the towns in Edime in the first semester of 2000-2001. The results of the study revealed the existence of a better positive teacher - student relationship in the classroom according to the teachers’ perceptions compared with those of the students. Furthermore, the students’ perceptions were compared within the group, and some meaningful differences were observed according to the educational levels of the students’ parents and the monthly incomes of the students’ families.
