The Effects of the Active Learning Approach in the Science Studies Teaching on Knowledge Level Achievement

Abstract

level achievement were examined by using quantitative and qualitative data. The research was carried out on two different groups of the fifth class pupils of Seyranbağlan Primary School that is located in Çankaya, Ankara. Pre and post-tests with control group design were applied in the research. While (he conventional teaching approach was implemented in the control group, the active learning approach was implemented in the experimental group. The data in the research were obtained by pre-test, post-test and the opinions of the pupils. The unit test was developed by the researcher. In the analysis of the quantitative data, mean, Standard deviation and the t test in independent groups were used. The findings can be summarized as follows: A significant difference was found in the means of the knowledge level gain scores between the active learning approach treated in the Science course experimental group and the conventional teaching approach treated in the Science course group. The means of the experimental group was better than the control group.
