An Overview of Teachers’ Awareness on Cyberbullying

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate teachers’ opinions about cyberbullying. The working group of this study consisted of 583 volunteer teachers teaching in different cities in Turkey. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire developed by the researchers. Frequencies, percentages and chi-square statistical technique were used for analyzing the data. The findings about general awareness of teachers about cyberbullying showed that consciousness about this issue among teachers is in a high level. On the other hand, it is understood that the variables such as socioeconomic level of the environments of participants’ schools and the frequency of internet usage affect some views about cyberbullying. Based on this finding, it can be claimed that teachers’ experiences and their knowledge and skills on the Internet reflect their views on the cyberbullying
