Review of the Eligibility of Picture Books to the Acquisition of the Preschool Education Program of the Ministry of National Education

Abstract

This study is intended to review the picture books published in Turkey, in terms of objectives and acquisitions been identified for education of children 36-72 months old in 2006 preschool education program of the Ministry of National Education, and to determine to what extent education with these books gives support to the education program implemented. The study group consists of 250 picture story books. As data collection tool, “Acquisition Evaluation Form” presented in the attachments in the back of the program book was used. The data was evaluated with the SPSS 16.0 statistical package program. As a result, the working group was determined to meet a rate of 18.5% of total of 264 acquisitions defined in the program. This relatively low rate points out that researches should be done about improving the quality of picture books for the period of preschool children in our country.
